Whether starting a blog or looking to attract more attention to an existing blog, those writing blogs are generally all asking themselves the same questions concerning how to create a successful space that will attract and intrigue new readers.

While the easiest path may be to use one of the template designs provided by blogging services, it’s hard to avoid the fact that appearance does matter.

An eye-catching blog design will separate a single blog from a sea of worthy competitors, and draw readers in. This attraction will give those readers the chance to really focus in on the great content.

Before throwing in the towel on a current blog, try spicing it up with some new and exciting blog design elements that will attract readers.

A great place to begin is with the banner or top logo of a blog. This is the first thing readers will see, and as such should give an idea as to what the content of the blog is.

While a nice blog design can be attractive, it is not likely to help browsers understand what content the blog explores. A perfect banner or top logo will have an image, along with a simple tag line, title or logo. The more eye-catching and relevant the photo the better, as it will make readers stop and pay attention.

Remember as well that any writing should be in a distinctive and interesting font that is clear, and easy to read. Stock photos and free font updates are available online either for free, or for nominal fees, and can be great additions to any blog.

Following right down the page, the next blog design element that will really take any blog from ordinary to eye-catching is the addition of photos and images along with the text. The catch is that it’s not enough to upload just any old photos off a digital camera. To really give a feel of design and personality, all images and photos should be given some style.

Try playing with the borders around photos, such as adding lines, or creating a jagged edge, or even changing the shape and uploading all round, or square photos and images. Anything that can help give a blog its own signature style will really give a great look by incorporating elements of custom blog design.

Next, as simple as it may seem, an important design element of any eye-catching blog is the color palette. It’s not enough to pick a plain background color from any old automatic template and put it up there. Instead, take the time to look into complimentary colors that will not only evoke the meaning of the content, but attract the attention of readers. Consult the internet for more assistance, including non-traditional blog sources like art and design websites and forums.

Finally, an often overlooked element of custom blog design for an eye-catching blog is the use of a favicon. While not everyone even knows what this is, everyone who uses the internet is sure to recognize quite a few of them by sight. These tiny symbols often appear at the beginning of a website’s URL, right up in the address bar.

Simple to make and apply, readers often associate these tiny blog design elements with not only a legitimate website or blog, but with a professional and established online publication.
