Domain name registration is one of the vital aspects of setting up a blog. If you want to blog seriously in the long run you must buy a domain name for yourself.
If your blog is about one particular topic, say “Blogging Tips” or “Search Engine Optimization” then you could choose a domain name which has the main keywords embedded, for instance ‘seotips’ or ‘bloggingtips’ in general. You can then tweak it to get your domain name.
But what if your blog is a multi niche blog?
A multi niche blog is a blog which talks about more than one subjects, in simple terms. For instance, Find All Answers is a multi niche blog which features articles in three major categories, namely Blogging Tips, Relationships and Self Improvement.
As you can see, these are really varied niches that are not related to one another. So niche SEO, when it comes to registering a domain name with the right keyword, is what most people find difficult.
I will tell you what I did to choose the domain name findallanswers.com for this blog, even though it is a multi niche blog.
Basically, instead of looking into the niche of the blog you have to look into the theme. Well by theme, I am not talking about the design aspects, but the concept aspects.
So your blog has different major topics. And, what do you do on those topics? Do you offer tips and tricks for people related to those topics? Do you discuss pros and cons and invite people to discuss? Do you bring up issues related to a particular topic? Ask yourself these questions and identify the theme of your blog.
For instance, here at Find All Answers, I try to help people by answering their questions, giving out tips, tricks and practical techniques, helping them to find solutions to problems and so on.
Once I find the theme of my blog I have to find out the most searched keywords related to the theme by doing a keyword research. For this you can use the Google Adwords Keyword search tool. Pick out the top 5 - 7 keywords. These are your main keywords.
Once you have the main keywords ready, just brainstorm for more related keywords. This time forget the niche seo and think about catchy words by tweaking your main keywords. You could easily come up with 20 - 25 terms with about 10 main keywords.
Now it is all done. You have to choose one name from the list and register your domain with that name.
The bottom line: Look into the theme of your blog, rather than the niche of your blog. Find out main keywords related to your theme, having niche seo in mind. Tweak it to make it catchy. Go for it.
Remember: Domain names help in branding your blog. So it is not advisable to change them way in between while you are developing your blog. So find out the right domain name well at the beginning and don’t think about changing it.

If you operate a blog that has more than one niche, think about how much content there is for each. If there is enough material for all of them you could consider separating them and operating a blog for each. This way you are receiving much more targeted traffic to your blogs.
Hey Nick,
I know what you mean. And I have always known this theory. But I don’t know somehow it works great for me. But yes, in general I wouldn’t guarantee that.
Thanks for stopping by Nick.
Jane.

I agree with your opinion, but i think it much better if we create a blog with specific domain that matches with the theme of our posting like Nick’s suggestion.
But if we want to separate our article in several blog domain we can give internal links with our main blog.

Yes Paijo that is how I know the theory. But I am sure most of the tech blogs and famous successful blogs like Mashable talk about multiple subjects on one blog. So it’s all about tailored strategy. No one rule works for all
.
Cheers for stopping by.

Hi Jane,
Your writing is inspirational. Nick has outlined a good option for multi-niche blog. I think, multi-niche blog is a good idea but niche blog helps to attract targeted visitors.
You started this article to give info about choosing right keywords for multi-niche blogs. As yesterday I saw your writing on Learning Good English, but I missed something here. Your presentation is very good but if you illustrated something in details about the process with some examples it would be more clear to me. Actually as I have learned about seo, keywords in domain name helps to rank up in the SERPs.
Actually, “Finding the Right Domain Name with Right Keywords for a Multi-Niche Blog” — your title of this post demands detailed process of Keyword Research. Don’t think I am an expert but I am a good reader. Seldom I criticize like, but I need to know about multi-niche keyword research. Because all speak about niche research not multi-niche.

Hi Rafique,
I understand your expectation. The post title makes you expect more isn’t. That’s right. Keyword research for a multi-niche blog is a VAST topic to talk about and I have planned some posts on it in the future. This post is like a teaser to what I will be talking in the near future.
Thanks for your interest in Find All Answers.

Choosing a domain name has been to much hard these days because of competition on the web . Always try to register a domain that help you to build a brand and easy to remember .
If you are running a multiniche blog I suggest you create separate page for every niche in that way visitors of your blog will have no difficulty finding what they are looking for. It my case I create different category for every niche.

What’s your take on using a company name as the domain name? I don’t know a lot about search engine optimization. Does Google like it when you have keywords in your domain?
