Killer Email Marketing Tips

I am a strong believer of the fact that email marketing is GOLDEN. I’ve said it many times at this blog and at various places where I write. Email marketing still works besides the fact that there are many new kinds of marketing methods that are emerging on a regular basis.

One thing I like so much about email marketing is the privacy. Unlike a blog post or a social media update which you write for the masses, emails can easily be personalized so you write for a single person (not literally, but with the personalization features available in almost all email autoresponder solutions like Aweber, you can write directly to your prospect!).

And unlike a social media update or a blog post that your prospect finds among hundreds of other things in their stream, your email lands directly on their inbox. You filter 99% of the noise and get their attention right away.

Do you see the 1-1 connection here? Most of the noise is filtered out and via email marketing, and you and your prospects can communicate and build relationship with much more clarity. That is the power of email marketing! And this is why I LOVE email marketing the most.

However, not all internet marketers are making the most of it. Even worse, some are ignoring the basics and ruining their reputation. Here’s a post where I talk about the basic email marketing tips (or best practices, I would say) that most internet marketers simply ignore.

Now, ignoring a tip shouldn’t hurt in general. But these tips (I talk about 5 of ‘em) are really the important ones and taking them lightly will not only prevent you from getting the benefits of email marketing but will also spoil your reputation in the long run.

Now, let’s talk about email marketing mistakes - there are quite a lot of mistakes made by internet marketers, especially in their early stages. How do I know?

  1. For one, I’ve made terrible email marketing mistakes in my early days that I feel ashamed of (really!) when I think about it today.
  2. I get those kinda amateurish emails from internet marketers to whose emails I am subscribed to.

FYI, I stay subscribed to a few people just to observe and learn - so no matter how unpleasant or useless I feel when I read those emails, I still stay on those lists to see how not to do things!

So mistakes set a bad example. I can tell that for sure; which is why I want you to be informed of these most common mistakes that could badly hurt your reputation.

Here’s a post where I talk about some of the most common mistakes > Email Marketing: Make These Mistakes. Damage Your Reputation, Seriously

Are you wondering why a good portion of your emails land in the spam folders of your subscribers? I used to wonder during my early days of blogging and I was fresh getting started with email marketing back then.

To be honest, I knew no manners and no ethics when I started out. I feel so unpleasant about it when I think about it now! Anyway I am so thankful that I opened my eyes and started treating my subscribers with respect.

One of the major things to “avoid” is overly promotional emails. Of course, if you are building an email list for your business you are looking to promote stuff to your list sooner or later. And I am not against promotions. After all, you are building your list so you can deliver value AND can promote stuff. But the latter should be done in moderation.

Just ask yourself this question: Will you stay subscribed to a list if they keep sending you promotional stuff all the way since you subscribed and very little, occasional or even NO valuable content?

Put yourself in your prospect’s shoes and you should be fine.

List building is an integral part of email marketing. To be precise, list building is where you start with your email marketing campaign.
