Weight Loss And Blogging Can Go Hand In Hand

weight-loss-and-blogging

As a blog’s popularity increases the blogger behind the scene is compelled to wet his hands more than ever before. He is required to pump out more day in and day out. It becomes not only a stressful activity but also a weight boosting activity as you are glued to the monitor for hours together.

As a result, weight loss becomes every blogger’s dream, or an everlasting goal!

Jobs that demand continuous sitting posture takes physical activity out of the equation. So it happens that a blogger’s weight gain is directly proportional to the blog’s popularity, if the blogger doesn’t take enough measures to include physical activity in his/her agenda.

But in my opinion, frequent physical activity and a balanced diet is not a waste of time for blogger, but helps boost creativity and productivity.

Allow me to discuss certain facts and methods involved.

This post is inspired by a comment discussion at my other discount coupon blog that features bistro md and diet to go coupons, seeing the number of bloggers who were worried about their weight gain.

Body Mass Index (BMI)

Keeping an eye on BMI is more than essential for every blogger. Your body should maintain correct height to weight ratio and the index should be with reference to your age.

Excess weight leads to increased blood pressure, fat and diabetes. In addition to the mornings’ or evenings’ physical exercises or games, your body needs physical activity all through the day.

These can be included by frequent breaks for stretching and some warming up or little aerobics sessions in between your regular blogging activities.

Sitting hours together at your work desk will not help you consume the energy. Standing and moving activities will consume energy as nerves and muscles take part in extracting the work for you. You can keep a close watch on your weight by checking your body weight on a weekly (or some sort of regular) basis and streamlining your activities to maintain ideal BMI.

Frequent breaks for weight loss

As you jump from one posting to another posting, you are advised to take short breaks. These are refreshing times for your eyes, brain and body. You can get up from your sitting position for every hour at least and have few steps of walking to help burn fat or consume energy in the body.

If you are nearby a staircase, it is great to walk through it up and down a few times. Or you can do household activities which can be completed in 10 minutes and that involve some physical movement.

By taking short breaks at regular intervals your body and mind will be refreshed and recharged and help you deliver better than working without a break. Your efficiency will increase and at the same time you will be fit enough physically.

Rest

Rest is essential for any human being. For bloggers it is very important as lack of sleep can lead to lack of ideas to pen down. Lack of rest will also drive you eat more which will not support your weight loss program but will add up more weight around your waist and belly.

Ideally human body requires six to eight hours of sound sleep. The number of hours varies from person to person and based on the age group.

Seating arrangement

Blogger’s seating arrangement should be planned very carefully, as most of the time a blogger’s posture is “sitting”. Instead of sitting in a non-movable chair, a flexible rotatable chair will help stretch legs, hands and back at frequent intervals.

Water and other eatables can be kept away from the work desk, so that you are forced to leave the chair and give some activity to your legs and muscles. Seating arrangement should be part and parcel of your weight loss program.

Avoid junk food

Eating junk food like chips, fried foods and carbonated drinks will add fuel to the fire. Hence all kinds of junk food can be replaced with whole foods such as fruits, vegetables and non homogenized dairy products.

Consult dietician for safe weight loss

Prevention is always better that cure. However, when you are trading above the normal levels, you can take help from fitness experts and dieticians. Instead of cutting meals altogether, dieticians will help you walk through a weight loss program planned more scientifically and logically.

Adhering to food guidelines and maintaining bodily exercises as per the dietician’s direction will help you manage your weight at permissible levels.

Proactive

Bloggers can identify their inherent weaknesses and try to avoid and eliminate those situations. You should be proactive in identifying the factors that leads you not move around from your chair.

Even though physicians and fitness experts can guide you to a certain extent, the ultimate success in maintaining a reasonable body weight depends on individual’s diligence and self care.

Plan blog schedule

Advanced planning of your blogging activity will help you keep away from weight loss programs. You can plan your work load such as number of blogs per week, number of editing jobs per week besides blog maintenance and other activities. As you plan in advance you can avoid stretching of extra hours on your blogging activity.

Balanced life

Spending reasonable quality time with family members and fulfilling societal obligations will help you not stick to your monitor all the time. This will help you maintain a balanced life which can greatly enhance your blogging career. There is nothing more pathetic than living in seclusion, maintaining all contacts virtually and not moving an inch from your chair.

    Very nice post Jane.
The most crucial part in my opinion is to avoid junk food. The junk food as a habit is one of the most dangerous enemies in weight loss.
If someone can add some physical exercise during the week too, that’s even better.
Thanks Jane for this useful post.

This article serves as a remind to all bloggers out there who are too busy with their blogging activities that they almost forgot how to take care of their body. Moreover, I totally agree with you that it is important to have a break after an hour of working so that we can regain our energy and at least refresh our mind to generate more ideas. In addition, we also need to take care of our eyes since ourselves are the most important investment for our success online.

Having balance in your life is important to keep everything in prospective. Take the time out to take care of yourself and the set a schedule for time to blog. Proper nutrition and consistent exercise are crucial to better health.

Nice post! I learned a lot of information from this post. But before jumping on into some weight loss program, you need to evaluate yourself if you really need to lose few more extra pounds. Remember, a healthy body doesn’t mean you should have a thin body. Never get the wrong impression of being healthy by getting thin or else, you will find yourself face to face with further problems like anorexia and other weight diseases problems.
You can also know more about this from my blog Save Money from Your Food Budget.

Do really need these tips. I can very well relate since I get to sit for hours right at my desk. Thanks and will definitely be back for more.

    Hi Jane,

Pleased to meet with you, your article was great and I love it like the others. As a blogger, I often forget my own physical health, often late to eat, lack of rest, rarely communicate with friends and just sit in front of a computer all day. Thanks again for sharing.

  22. Paul45Paul45 says

I used to have problem with weight. I think it all gets down to habits.

The most easy way to do it, and the way it worked for me, was to replace a bad habit with a healthy habit…patience….training…and the results appeared.

  23. Kate says

It is necessary to take healthy diet. Eat at-least one fruit in a day . physical movements like swimming or running are necessary to lose weight fast. Regular exercises play an important role in weight loss.

  24. says

    Hi Jane,

I recently tried the Tim Ferris slow carb diet more out of curiosity and as a kind of experiment than anything else. I haven’t got the results with this as expected/claimed but the thing that’s frustrated me the most about that diet is the claim that it works with no exercise at all.

So I agree with you 1000% that you need to look at more than just what you eat and drink - when considering diets and weight loss, you need to look at the whole picture, including exercise and rest too.

Another consideration particularly for bloggers is not just getting up from the desk but actually getting outside. It’s important to get enough natural sunlight or even just natural light. Vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency is becoming more and more common as people lock themselves indoors for longer and longer. So it’s important to get out and about too. Good if you have a dog - make sure you take him/her out every day.

I’ve ended up writing a few similar articles myself recently which you might like just because of trying the Tim Ferris thing - be sure to say Hi if you do stop by.

great article - take care & best wishes,
    Alan

    Hi Jane,
Really, your blog is elaborating a amazing and interesting topic. You have connected to different things in a perfect way but i am not agree with you on that “blogger’s weight gain is directly proportional to the blog’s popularity”. I have an example for you that you looks slim and pretty but your blog is too much popular. What will you say about it or you are conscious about your weight from beginning.

  26. PaulPaul says

Boy oh boy does this hit close to home. I had to admit that I was getting a bit on the portly side last month when my jeans started to get way to tight for comfort. I have since started taking an hour out of my day to take my pup walking just to burn some calories and slowly get back to loose fitting jeans. This type of work most definitely lends to putting weight on. The day goes very quickly when a person is busy on a web business.

  27. JamieJamie says

Important tips here. After sitting and typing for a few hours, I find that I have to get up and go for a run or a hike in the woods. It really helps me to feel energized and it helps boost my creativity, as well. Also, if you do any reviews for weight loss or fitness DVDs or apps as part of your blog, you can work out and be “working” at the same time.

  28. GaryGary says

Thanks for writing this article. I have struggled with weight all my life. I have given up on trying to lose weight. I admire your success.

Nice tips! If you have whole day sitting job and you also can follow a weight loss plan, then you should keep in mind some tips. Keep yourself away from junk food. Take care of your sitting arrangement and proper rest is also necessary.

  32. Corey says

As a blogger, you will gain weight if you don’t exercise. Its easy to eat breakfast lunch and dinner in front of the computer. I’ve done it quite a few times, you get started and just can’t call it quits till you get to a self imposed stop point. Watching what you eat is important too. Cut back on the sugar and caffeine.

  33. DavidDavid says

I used to ignore health previously. I used to eat junk food lot. Later I have to suffer from a serious of problem with massive amount of weight gain. Thats the nice tips for blogger to lose weight.
