How To Become A Wildly Prolific Blogger

prolific blogger

I need to give Jane Sheeba credit; she caught my eye by writing like crazy. I remember a while back seeing her guest posts on multiple blogs. OK, like every blog it seemed.

Everywhere I turned I saw the name, “Jane Sheeba.” I was impressed. Think about it; many famous and wealthy singers rarely turn down the opportunity to work with other singers.

We call them “duets” or joint-ventures, but this is just like guest posting really. You connect with another blogger, write a helpful guest post for their audience, reach into a new audience, and make new friends.

She is wildly prolific. Guest posting might by the quickest way to leverage your presence as a blogger but if you are simply prolific on your blog, you will gain some serious attention.

If you want to know a few tips and tools from her, check out this presentation

I received a comment on one of my guest posts the other day about….”meeting that guy who wrote 10 posts in 1 day.” That is me.

For a stretch I churned out 20 posts daily. 10 post on 2 blogs. Do I advise this for everybody? Yes, because to become successful you must push yourself beyond your limits at times.

I do not churn out 10 posts daily but I do write 2 to 4 posts on my blogs plus 1 to 3 guest posts daily. A not too shabby 3 to 7 posts daily. This is how I make money online.

This is why I have written more than 4000 posts during my career. I write like mad when I feel the impulse.

I write every day, whether I am living in Bali, Phuket, Sri Lanka or Malaysia – yeah I am a globe trotter - because if I call myself a blogger I darn well better blog persistently.

OK…how can you become a wildly prolific blogger?

1 – Know Why You Want to Blog

You act because you are motivated to act. I love being free. I love traveling the world and making money online. I write because I know why I wish to become prolific, and this reason pushes me to write daily and network aggressively with other bloggers.

Do you crave financial freedom? Do you want to improve the lives of your audience, by sharing immense value? Decide why you wish to blog. Write the reason on a piece of paper. Carry the paper with you. Become prolific, because your driver is always in your pocket.

2 – Set Big Goals

If you write once each week set the goal to write 4 times each week. Sound ridiculous? Good. You are quickly learning how to become a successful blogger. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone forces you to change your definition of, “realistic.”

Guess what? This fired security guard thought publishing 1 post weekly was realistic. Then I thought posting once each day was realistic. Then I did the 4 to 10 to 20 posts daily, I thought that was realistic. I began to make money online regularly because I set progressively bigger goals.

The only thing that changed was my thinking, my definition of what I thought was possible, or realistic. If you really want to become ridiculously prolific, hang out with inspiring people. They will force you to challenge your limits, set bigger goals and expand your idea of what is possible.

3 – Write, Write and Write and Edit Later

I churn out 400 to 600 to 1000 words fast. Then I edit. Stream of consciousness stuff, because I listen, write and resist the urge to stop and edit. You become prolific by creating. You never become prolific by writing a sentence, then stopping to edit.

Put your best work out there but PLEASE do not fear publishing a post with typos, or poor grammar in some spots. Why? Accept criticism, and you will become even more prolific. You will lose the fear crippling so many talented but terrified bloggers.

No excuses guys. Champions become prolific. So you work full time and have a family? You only have 20 minutes a day to blog? Spend the 20 minutes EVERY day to publish at least write half of your post. If you want to be renowned and help people and cash in, you need to sacrifice.

No worries though. Sacrifice is releasing something of a lower nature to make room for something of a higher lower. Turn off the TV and fire up your laptop, and blog!

4 – Write with Your Voice

If I try to write like Jane Sheeba I write for hours, trying to churn out 600 words. If I write like Ryan Biddulph I churn out 663 words – where I am right now - in 9 or 10 minutes. Absolute breeze. Like me talking, except I am writing.

Naturally, you become insanely prolific by writing in your voice, or by writing how you speak. The words flow out of your mind onto the keyboard with stunning ease.

Your Turn

Are you a prolific blogger?

Ahh! How can I miss the chance to comment on such a great post?

Ryan you forgot one thing, Jane Sheeba is “female freddy krueger of blogging” ;)

I don’t know how she will come up with great topics all the time (please Jane, share your secrets with us :D), nah! I’m not taking about the productivity tips.

Here are two cents from my side Ryan (especially while writing): Use 25 minute pomodoro tool (you might be aware of this), this is the only tool I’ve been using for a long time to write faster yet better posts.

Coming to boosting your blogging productivity: UNPLUG internet connection. That’s what I do while blogging.

Thanks for the great share Ryan, I always love your stuff. Gonna share the post now!

    Hi Ryan,
What you’re doing now is what i call Being Everywhere. You rock man. Welcome to Jane’s blog too.

Now, being a prolific writer is never an inborn talent rather, its what anyone can easily build up. In other words, consistency is the key here.

How do you learn to ride a bicycle? Is it not by first picking up the Bicycle, falling, getting up and trying again? Therefore, monopoly is at work here.

Therefore, being a prolific writer is a habit and anyone can become one. Its a matter of writing, writing and writing. The more you write, the more expert you become.

    Thanks for sharing.

    An amazing post Ryan,
I think that being a prolific writer is one thing most bloggers and content marketers crave for. Most achieve it while the rest never had the courage and determination to get to the end of the road.

Its all about writing that article and having it out there no matter how poor you think it is. There is always a room for improvement if you ask me therefore, looking for perfection will never take you anywhere.

I strongly agree with all you said here man, thanks for sharing.

    • http://cashgiftingprograms-rb.blogspot.com/2013/04/how-my-neck-piece-relates-to-making.html Ryan Biddulph

Thanks Valentine, I appreciate your insight :)

  • http://www.aha-now.com Harleena Singh

Hi Ryan, and welcome to Jane’s blog :)

Look who is talking now….yes, we do see Jane all over - but you too are no less! I think wherever I’m going, I AM seeing your awesome posts too :)

Coming to the topic, I agree with all that you wrote. I guess when you write from your heart and as you said, it’s almost like you are talking, the words just fall into place - they do for me too. Perhaps that’s why my posts or comments go to great lengths :)

However, if there is research work that needs to be done or you have to add keywords, and do all of those inner linking etc - it does take time (for me it does). Writing comes much faster in my case too, and churning out 2000 words for a post isn’t tough - it’s the other related blogging tasks that take more time. Not to mention keeping your presence felt in the social media too, even if its once a day - does take time.

Nevertheless, hats off to you as you surely beat all of us with your speed. And I loved your slideshare Jane - you are surely coming up with great ones (love the images you use).

Thanks for sharing these tips with us. Have a nice day - both of you :)

Ryan, you are a BIG inspiration! Same as Jane, I am seeing your name everywhere on blogs and social medias… and as if that was not enough, Jane mentioned you in her newsletter! This one is very encouraging post by you. Set big goals, write too much and edit later- that is very helpful. In other words, hard work and passion has no substitute.
    Keep it up, Ryan.

    hi Ryan,
you have written the article in such a way that it seems quite easy to do guest posting. But, for a newbie out there, is it not an issue to get the host for his guest post?

    • http://cashgiftingprograms-rb.blogspot.com/2013/04/how-my-neck-piece-relates-to-making.html Ryan Biddulph

Keep writing daily Yogesh, your skills improve, then most people will accept your guest posts ;) Practice, practice, practice, and you will STOP being a newbie and START being a pro!

      • yogesh pant

thanks Ryan for your valuable reply.
But can you please provide the blog links which are helpful enough to accept the request for guest posting from a newbie?

        • http://cashwithatrueconscience.com/rbblog Ryan Biddulph

Just look around buddy, keep researching and you will find them my friend.

          • Yogesh Pant

            thank you, Ryan.

I use a tool very much like Astrid called RememberTheMilk but I’m going to have to give Astrid a try.

I’ve been an avid user of Evernote user for a while now and I have to agree that its very useful.

Like your advice on just writing a lot as well. This was my biggest hurdle when I was starting out.

A very inspiring and challenging post, Ryan - I’ve been struggling to manage one post a week and, like Harleena, find the other ancillary blogging tasks can take up an inordinate amount of time, but I know I could produce a lot more content if I organised my time more effectively. Thanks very much for sharing your experience and giving us some insights into your success - an awesome achievement :)
