Search Engine Traffic: You Need It To Build A Profitable Blog

search engine traffic obey rules

The best thing about having a blog is that when it successfully attracts search engine traffic or bags a pretty good amount of money so that you feel on the top of the world.

But the art of becoming a successful blogger is not the hardest thing in the world although it is not too easy either. Organic traffic is very important and reliable for every blogger to have a steady and promising traffic than through referrals or other sources.

Here are few points which will help you write a good keyword optimized post. A keyword enriched (not stuffed) post will surely be helpful to improve your search engine ranking in Google’s search results page.

Selection of keywords

Before blogging you should understand it for sure that high traffic does not always mean high profit. There are number of successful blogs which bags a huge amount of profit but attracts only a moderate traffic.

Here you have two genuine options. You can use high end traffic keywords but there is no guarantee that they will surely help your blog to attract high search engine traffic. The other option is to choose keywords that target an average number of traffic but surely makes huge profit by resulting in increased proportion of visitors. These keywords can be called profitable keywords. And as I have mentioned earlier high traffic and high profit do not necessarily have a causal relation; the choice is yours.

According to a recent article published in the Information week, maximum of the traffic gets generated by four words queries although three words or two words queries also generates traffic. So you should optimize your blog in such a way that against the input of any four words phrase related to your blog it shows up, that is, the long tail keywords.

Keyword implementation

The second very useful tip to design an attractive and equally profitable blog is the correct implement or placement of keywords. Before I elaborate the point try to understand a prospect of human psychology which says that the greater you can hammer something into a human mind the easier he or she will feel attracted to it or remember it.

In your blog you can repeat a keyword which projects your business as much as you can (although it has an exact ration. You can google it if interested). Just keep it in mind that it should not sound monotonous. Use the word everywhere from your post title to the page URL name, from category names to permanent links.

This will make Google to show off your blog frequently.

Understanding right posting time

You should understand the proper posting time and the frequency of posting for your blog. It is recommended that there should be a consistency between publishing every two blog posts. The question is how you will understand the proper time and frequency of posting. Always keep an eye on your blogs statistic.

Find out how frequently you are being spidered. Then finalize the posting time and frequency. For example, if you are being spidered more often speed up your posting frequency or if you are being spidered less often you can cut down the frequency of posting. Although at first it will be a little tough to understand the equation consistent practice will work.

Jane’s note: IMO, blog posting frequency is something that the blogger chooses according to the demand in their niche, their comfortable frequency and many other factors. I wouldn’t recommend a blog update frequency to synchronize with search engine crawls since they are not consistent. Consistency is the key, the frequency can be anything that suits the blogger and the niche - more discussion on this here.

Regular updates

For a successful blog regular update is very important. Keep updating you blog frequently and that will result in attracting more and more visitors to your blog. You can also try to design your blog in such a way that your pages gets categorized fast and in this way you can go on for a long time without a steady update to your blog. And in this way Google also will not have a problem with your blog.

Set up feeds

Do not forget to enable the site feeds of your blog. Through your site feed you can actually advertise your blog successfully through content syndication. Use the keyword which you wanted to be noticed in the post title and post description. This will potentially increase search engine traffic of your blog.

The last but not the least tip is to provide people twice more than what they look for. But the offering should be relevant of course. Be sincere and follow all the tricks of blog SEO and keep blogging.

    Very good advice.

I might add that it makes sense for you to post to other people’s blogs…and that will help to attract traffic back to your blog. Getting people to initially read your posts and then subscribe to your feed can be challenging.

Writing in your own voice in a familiar style will help your audience connect with you. It’s an area that I need to work on! :)

    • says

Its not a big challenge to get readers/visitors subscribe to our feed, Once after we have good ranking and content which attract them. Basically visitors who visit the site come for content they require, but some sites are totally filled up with ads and stuff which is not related. Backlinks play a role in getting traffic from related sites, So people with same interest may get interest in subscribing your site feed. Glad you find the article useful.
      Happy Blogging Denise.

I had to buy a plugin to really get the benefits of search engine traffic. It was “too time consuming” to write “perfect” blog posts that were optimized for search engines without understanding exactly what to do. Now, things are a lot easier, and the traffic is much higher than before.

What I have discovered is that search engines keep sending traffic for a very long time, and that’s why it’s so important to use the right keywords. I have had a few posts that has been at the top of Google for apx. four years, and I’ve received close to 100 visitors a day for almost four years, and that’s completely free traffic.

      • says

I don’t really know what the average visitors on blogs are, but it’s not really about the number of visitors, it’s more about the quality of the visitors. For instance, I get about 150 - 200 visitors to one blog posts every day, based on search via Google. But, close to 90% of the people to that blog post are leaving right away.. because that blog post isn’t related to what my blog is about (I’ve written a tutorial about how to create lists on Facebook, and my blog is about marketing). I could have had 90% less traffic as long as they’d stick on my blog :)

        • says

Hi Jens, its a good impact having only 37% Bounce Rate. Even the visitors are not getting what they required from your blog as you said in the above comment, I mean landing pages. But even though its so good to know that the bounce rate is very less when compared to this point. This means users also tend to read other articles too :)

  8. says

That’s the first I have heard about the timing of your posts on a regular basis - I understood about the frequency but not timing. Interesting post and thanks for sharing!

  9. says

SEO may sound a little complex to newbies in the beginning. But it is worth learning it. The traffic from search engines is highly targeted than any other traffic sources and so the conversations are very high.

    Nice post Sai :)

Thank you bro :) glad to have your valuable comment, updating the site regularly is more important but frequency of the posts is also a mandatory. Implementing related keywords in the post drag more traffic from search engines.

  11. says

Very well written Sai. A lot of newbies would think that SEO is too complex to understand but in reality, it’s not. Search engine algorithms changes from time to time. As for me, I do think that the main ingredient to successful blogging aside from writing good content, is to ensure that you have included the main keywords in your blog title.

  12. Melissa says

  21. Mohsin Ali says

With social media come into play search engine traffic is not as important as it was before but still its the priority of every blogger to get traffic from search engines.

  22. says

    Hey Sai,
I like your post buddy. Getting search engine traffic is a two way street a might say: first you put your best to create quality content and do on page seo, as you explained above. Secondly, you create those necessary backlinks through promotion and networking. All these activities are interconnected..a good keyword doesn’t mean too much if the content is poor or you don’t syndicate, or the posts show up on your blog like the seasons of the year :)

Regarding the posting frequency, the best one is the one you enjoy and manage to handle considering the other areas of life.

Great reminder about the feed as well. It’s a topic that is not so often explored. I’m going to do more researches about it :)
Thanks for sharing your tips buddy. Glad to be in the same contest with ya. Keep blogging and promoting..boy, you rock at it from what I see :)
    Success in the contest!
    Cheers,
    Radu

    Saikrishna,

Thanks for a very interesting and informative article on traffic makeup.

I build a lot of websites for local businesses that provide services within their community. When I choose keywords, I look for what I would consider “commercial keywords” to build my site around with the purpose of getting more targeted traffic that ends up in a higher percentage of buyers.

This technique is the same for my blogging, only the opposite. Let me illustrate:

Lets say I am building a website for a local roofer. If my keyword research shows me LOCAL ROOFER, ROOFING CONTRACTOR, and METAL ROOFING, I would select all but METAL ROOFING, because this visitor is likely looking for information on the topic as opposed to a contractor. Since I am localizing this website, the chances of getting a visitor looking for information and converting them to a sale is very small, so it is not a practical use of a small businesses money.

On the other hand, if I want to write an article for a blog on roofing, I would choose the topic of METAL ROOFING. This is informational and I will get international traffic. I could monetize this article by looking for an affiliation program with a nation wide roofing contractor.

    -Joe

Keyword selection may play very important role is blogging . we should always choose a keyword having average amount of search terms having less competition . Choosing a high search volume keyword will not help you to drive traffic to your blog because these keyword have very high competition and it will take very hard work and time to get ranked of first page of search engines

  25. Gaurang says

Thoroughly researched article. I agree with each and every point you have included in the post which contributes to great SERPs.

  26. caroline says

Good share Sai… I think I have to concentrate on three words queries that brings more profit to my business

  27. Bryan Ring says

Thank you Sai, I think search engine traffic will take time to develop. Especially since GOOGLE continuously changes the rules. Gearing your content solely for the reader is seeming your best bet for organic traffic. Keywords are still a MUST, but GOOGLE has someone they need to please…the searcher.

  28. says

    Hi, Sai,

Thank you for sharing! All these are relatively alien ideas to me.
I have a long way tt go before getting this SEO thing right.

I have picked up some great tips from other fellow commenters too.

Thanks for this article. I’ve got a few blogs, one of which has been active for quite some time and has a lot of content. It’s kind of unexpected to see what keywords I rank highly in the search engines for; not that I use those keywords deliberately or anything like that, they just come up. I believe it’s also because I’m using those words as tags as well, so that probably boosts me in the SERPs. Look forward to reading your ebooks.

  33. Sandra Bryant says

I have a blog that I am trying to maintain for quite a while now. There are some people who visit it regularly, but I have always wanted to expand and reach out to bigger audience. Your article has given me many great ideas on how to do that properly and for that I thank you. These definitely are some good basic principles to improve the traffic of your web page. Again thanks and keep up the good work.
