Welcome to the first post in the series “Write Killer Content” For Your Blog. I’m so happy to introduce this series (course).

The best way to stay tuned to this series in a more systematic way is to take up the course (free!). The course also includes the free audio version of the course material plus “home work” tasks with every module to help you get the most out of this course.

I strongly believe that this topic is very vital for any blogger to become successful in their blogging career.

It is because content is the backbone of any blog. If you take content off any blog, there is no blog! Not just that.

Your blog’s content is your portfolio. Be it business, branding, conversion or marketing – your blog’s content serves all these purposes. It is not your blog’s design or your social proof.

It IS your blog’s content. Period.

You can never take any chances to publish crappy content on your blog and expect to attain success in whatever you’re aiming for. It will simply never happen.

Let’s put ourselves in the shoes of an average person who surfs the internet needing something. And, let’s assume that he wants to know about “email marketing”.

It is so easy for you, as a blogger, to put up a 300-500 word average article on “email marketing” by rewriting some of the information available on the internet. You could also write 3 or 4 additional blog posts on the same topic, again by rehashing what’s already available on the internet.

Let’s say your blog was lucky enough to be ranked by Google for the keyword “email marketing” (although chances that this could happen are very slim, very!).

Think about the reader experience.

If it is you, would you be happy and satisfied by reading that 300-500 word re-hashed article? You bet.

It is the same with your reader, or even more critical.

A cheap or a crappy blog post will result in one or many of the following:

  • You instantly lose a reader (read that as a loyal reader or a potential customer).
  • You damage your brand. You will be known for producing crappy content.
  • Your blog and business will be drowned to the bottom of the sea of genuine bloggers who shed a lot of sweat and blood to produce high quality epic shit.
  • There is no point in you staying on the blogosphere anymore coz no one loves you. Heck, wait, no one even notices you.
  • Google gives an option to block all results from your blog/website if a search visitor hits the back button (see image below).

End of story.

You see content is really the King.

And you’re out of business if you don’t provide epic/useful content. [Click To Tweet]

Personally, apart from the above mentioned reasons, I also consider ‘creating epic content’ to be one of the crucial aspects of blogging.

After all we’re blogging, right. We gotta have a purpose. We gotta make a difference. We gotta say something that really matters. Otherwise we better don’t blog!

That’s my personal opinion, of course. But I do hope that it makes sense.

So that’s my motive behind starting this series and I really do hope that you will find this series useful. In my honest opinion, you’ll be able to become a problogger only if your content is of extreme quality.

Can design and promotion help?

Let’s say you have a stunning blog in terms of design. Such a blog will make the visitors stay for a few more seconds. But if the content is crappy, they’ll soon realize that its time to leave. The stunning design can hold readers’ attention only for so long.

In the same way, let’s assume that you’re a marketing king and that you market your blog’s (poor quality) content like crazy. Sure, your blog promotion strategy will bring in a lot of traffic. No doubt. But the landed traffic will learn very soon that your blog simply has crappy content and the traffic is useless. There’s no doubt.

I’m not saying that you should only produce killer content and not worry about promoting it or presenting in a nice way, or should not worry about the design of your blog. You should of course write killer blog content and then take care of the following as well:

1. Promote the content in social media,

2. Network with other bloggers,

3. Present the content in an easily consumable manner (neatly formatted posts, including media etc.),

4. Give your blog a professional look by taking care of the design of the blog,

5. Optimize your blog posts for search engines, and

6. Optimize your blog for search engines (this can be done by using a search engine optimized theme like Thesis or Genesis),

And all that. BUT all these don’t make sense when you don’t have killer content on your blog.

In fact I don’t recommend newbie bloggers to submit their blogs to search engines or do guest blogging until they have at least 5-10 high quality killer posts on their blog.

Both the search engines as well as the traffic (from search engines and guest blogging) won’t appreciate that. It will only leave a negative mark on your blog.

Not just design and promotion, but nothing can help you succeed if you have crappy content on your blog.

If you have killer content in your blog as the base you surely can go ahead and promote it like crazy. Wait, over a short period of time, people will start promoting it like crazy for you. It gets that sweet!

I appreciate your comment as always!

Hi Jane, This is going to be a great series, I can tell. I am looking forward to the next four posts in the series.

It does indeed appear that many blogs get great traffic and I am not 100% sure of the content. Have you had that experience too?

    • says

Hey David, we should be actually looking at the traffic that “converts”. Mere traffic is useless :) Thanks for stopping by!

  7. Koundeenya says

Great one Jane! Content is the king and it will all the time. One of my new blog on which I started working recently is now getting good traffic (though, no organic yet) and very less bounce rate. I’ve nothing except good content.

  8. Becca says

  9. says

i am wondering if you want to get good content do you recommend from where you can get for a good price :)

    • says

Hey Saad, I’ve not purchased content from outside. I do outsource some of the writing for article marketing and other purposes to a close circle of writers!

      • says

hey jane, even I have never bought a content from any where but i have so many clients who need content and i dont know from where to get good content at good price to sell to them because i am managing 10 blogs for others and dont have time for content creation.

        • says

Hey Saad, yup I too manage 15 blogs and niche sites (combined). As I said I have a close group of writers to generate content for my niche sites!

May be if you could hire a group of writers, you could supply content for your clients!

  10. Tarun says

    Nice post :)
Content is the thing you can’t ignore if you want to increase your site’s readership. Not only search engines but readers also love the quality content. Readers love to share killer content.

  11. says

Content is the thing, which drives the world-wide-web. And, Killer-Contents are the leaders on SERPs.

Concentrate more on content, rather than other things like blog design, seo etc.(like you have pointed out). And, producing Killer-Content is an ART + Science (psychology).

    Thanks for the indepth analysis.

  12. Arwin says

I think this will going to be an exciting series to follow. As blogger I definitely agree that content attracts loyal readers, it’s like a traffic magnet that attracts your readers to get back and have more.

    • says

Yup hope you will be benefited by the course. Sure killer content is indeed a traffic magnet!

  13. says

Content is the king but SEO is the queen. King cannot do anything alone without the queen. Killer content is necessary for the blogs success but proper SEO and marketing strategies are need to take it to the next level.

    • says

Of course that’s right Kashish. But killer content comes first and SEO comes next; that’s what we also learned from the latest Penguin.

  14. says

Thanks jane i am looking for content course finally i got that i already subscribed and I am sure learn Alot from you.

    • says

That’s great Rahul. Hope you’ll find the course useful!

  15. matt says

Hi Jane having a killer content is so necessary but may I add that having eye catching title is also valued equally.

  16. says

SEO never comes before content.. It is the content that comes first and we optimize it to SEO standard so killer content is always important. And with good marketing strategies it reach toward a lot of people.

  17. Veer Modi says

Interesting series!! It will be a great pleasure to receive tips on writing killer content from the experienced blogger like you. Thanks for this free series, Jane.

  18. Scott Mattingly says

I used to get in fights with my editors over content versus presentation when I wrote for the newspaper. To me the content is absolutely, undoubtedly, always the most important factor. Your formatting and presentation shouldn’t be distracting, but the power of well written content trumps fun looking layouts when those people finally get down to the task of actually reading what you’ve got.

    • says

Very well said Scott. I couldn’t have said it better :) Thanks for stopping by!

  19. eJean1981 says

An alarming amount of stuff on the internet is crappy. People never learned how to write or spell, or they wrote in a foreign language and then produced a laughable result using a translation program. I just click right away from such content.

  20. Ehsan says

Hi Jane, First of all Hi! I’m Ehsan Ullah and it is my first comment on your blog ever. I’m new in Blogging market and trying to learn it:D

no one can understand the google becuase I saw most bloggers not writing artilce by own and they are earning lot of money and some time best blogger hit by google updates

    • says

Kiran, I don’t think that we (bloggers) should be spending too much energy and time on pleasing Google (or any other search engine for that matter). Just concentrate on delivering quality for the readers plus some good marketing and promotion - the rest will follow!

  22. says

You are absolutely right, even when the tendencies are changing, the one is still the same- “Content is the king”)) And in case if you’re a blogger, then you do everything to have a killer one

    • says

That’s right Amanda. I don’t see any other choices available for a blogger in particular, lol.

  23. Melissa says

I don’t even see any necessity to talk about the importance of the content, because it is still the king

  24. Daniel says

    Thanks you for sharing.

  25. Mirsub Fazlani says

I’ll keep these points in mind the next time I blog. I do my best to write original content (and succeed most of the time) though, I’ll admit. Sometimes my laziness gets the best of me.

    • says

Hey Mirsub, laziness is so common and its OK to be lazy once in a while :) don’t worry. Just see that it doesn’t take over.
