How To Use Blogging As A Form Of Therapy

Therapy1

We all go through those rough patches. Sometimes they last just for the day, and other times you feel like you have been stuck in a rut forever. I understand the feeling and have dealt with the “what am I supposed to do” mentality.

People used to tell me that this mentality was half of the battle, but the truth is that changing your feelings about a situation can be very difficult (more difficult for some than others).

Sometimes it helps to just vent a little bit, express your concerns, and let others help you.

This is why blogging as a form of therapy is perfect for someone who needs that extra dose of confidence. In other words, having a successful blog doesn't have to mean making money.

For those who are unfamiliar, a blog is very much like an online … [Read more...]

link-building

This week was hectic for me. As far as blogging is concerned, I was able to accomplish only so little.

Anyway, I was able to stay afloat.

I have set up a new niche site this week (one of my older niche sites got hit by the recent Google update, so I needed a new hand lol).

I have also changed the theme of my personal blog janesheeba.com and Merry Relationships to Genesis framework. No wait, I'm not leaving Thesis yet (Problogging Success and some other niche sites of mine still run on [Read more...]

5 Important Blog Policy Tips

policies1

If you’ve started monetizing your blog then you probably know by now that your blog should have a privacy policy, disclosure policy, and disclaimers in place somewhere on the site.

And if you don't yet have these on your blog, you need to implement them onto your blog ASAP.

The purpose of these various different legal policies isn't just to take up space, but to let readers know that they are secure on your website and that they need not worry about identity theft, etc. and that you are being compensated for certain content that may appear on your website.

These policies can be a few simple sentences or can be lengthy and detailed depending on what message you want to … [Read more...]

Local SEO: Google Places More Important Than Ever

Local-SEO

With the world going more and more global, over the last two years we have also witnessed web searches getting more and more local. And its not an exaggeration to say that Google Places has dramatically changed the way that local businesses deal with search engine marketing. Local SEO has become the latest 'hot niche' for location based businesses.

According to Google’s statistics, 20% of all searches contain local terms and keywords with 97% of consumers searching for local products and services online. And that figure is continuously growing, especially with the increasing number of smartphone owners.

Despite being a free service and being around since 2010, many businesses either find Google Places too complicated and do not quite get it, therefore do not really use it; which is a shame, as these companies could be missing out on 20% of their potential customers, according to … [Read more...]

Putting Off Hitting Publish? Here Is The Cure

Putting-Off-Hitting-Publish

Blogging includes content creation on the major part. While it is true that we have other aspects such as design, promotion, SEO, networking, link building and other things, content stands as the most crucial aspect.

Subtract the content from your blog and there is no blog! The content of your blog is THE element that makes the blog.

The content can be of any form. It need not be necessarily text. It can be a podcast (audio) or video. But for the purpose of this post, I'll be focusing on text format of blog posts.

You know all the above mentioned facts. And hence you write blog posts putting in lot of time and effort in

  • brainstorming for the idea
  • researching on the topic
  • putting out a nice outline
  • pumping in content to fill out the white space
  • and yup, the blog post is ready!
Well, … [Read more...]

This week, Google slap continues. Many more sites seem to have been de-indexed since last week.

Although we all love search engine traffic, we need to have two things in mind:

1. We should not put all the eggs in one basket (Google, because there are other search engines too), and

2. We should not put all the eggs in one basket (Do not rely too much on search engine traffic. Find other sources of traffic as well).

Lesson learned. Moving on.

I've summarized some of the best reads I had this week.

Can You Save the Company Blog?

Your boss comes to you with a task that he or she says may not be at the top of the priority list, but it has to be dealt with. Quite simply, do something with the company blog.

As someone who has worked in the writing field in one aspect or another for more than 20 years, I have seen some fantastic blogs and others that should be fitted on a rocket and shot off to that great blog heaven in the sky.

First and foremost, the company blog, whether your employer is just starting a small business or has been around for years, should tell your readers what your brand is, how your product/s and services can help them, and why your business and only your business should be the go-to one.

Does Your Company Blog Get the Proper TLC? Unfortunately, … [Read more...]

Problogging Success Weekend Read: Content Marketing, Blogging, SEO & Facebook Timeline

I used to do the Friday roundup series a while ago. And then when I had to move my blog from an old domain to a new one, due to amount of work involved in moving and as well as with the launch of Guest Blogging Champion, I stopped the series altogether.

I've now started it again! Hope you'll like it.

This re-launch of the series incorporates two changes:

1. The series is renamed - Problogging Success Weekend Read, and

2. The topics of roundup won't be the same for all weeks. I will be changing them dynamically depending on what's hot and interesting that week.

Lets get to it.

This week, as the title says, is about content marketing (my favorite topic all time), general blogging, SEO and the … [Read more...]

Spicing Up Boring Content

Spicing-Up-Boring-Content1

The consensus view among search marketers is that content marketing is the optimal strategy to building long term success of a website. Content marketing is essentially a strategy that relies on what you create, rather than boosting results from external sources.

Readers tend to share quality content, and successful websites typically provide interesting and succinct content that doesn't appear to be financially motivated or masquerading as a sales pitch.

The strategy does, however, assume that readers across the web will do your dirty work for you, and share your content on blogs and social media sites. Unfortunately, content marketing isn’t always as easy as it seems.

The search marketing experts who write for popular online marketing themed websites always make it … [Read more...]
