Tips to increase website traffic without posting new content

Breathe life into your old blog posts

The simplest way to increase your website traffic is to improve your old blog posts. Optimize your old blog posts and pages if you haven’t properly optimized it before. Make sure each of your post has a specific keyword to target for.

The only way to increase your overall SEO traffic is to improve your on-page SEO. That can be only done by performing a proper keyword research. So if you haven’t properly done with on-page SEO on your old blog posts, make sure to focus at least one keyword and use it in headline, meta description and body to rank well in search engines.

Here are few pro tips to improve your old blog posts to increase website traffic without producing new content.

- Tweak your headlines. If a post doesn’t have a compelling title, tweak it and make it better.

- Add more information. By adding more value to the old blog posts, you can certainly improve the quality of your website content. Add the updated information with latest trends and also link to quality sites for more reference.

- Include call to actions when updating your old posts. Ask your readers to either share your posts or leave a comment. This way you’ll increase your user engagement.

Note: Don’t EVER change your URL’s while updating your old blog posts or pages. It will result in 404 error pages and Google can penalize you for having 404 error pages. Change your headlines but not URL’s.

Tweet your published posts with a twist

Tweak your headlines while tweeting your old blog posts instead of sharing with the default titles to increase your click through rates and attract more people to click on your tweets.

The best way to increase your website traffic is through social media sites. Twitter is undoubtedly the best social media platform for bloggers who want to increase their website traffic. By tweeting your best stuff at regular intervals, you can attract a lot of new visitors to your sites.

You can use tools like BufferApp for scheduling posts in advance and you can actually see the analytics like how many clicks your tweets have generated and number of retweets using this app.

Pro tip: You can use a handy WordPress plugin called “Tweet Old Blog Posts”. It’s free and a powerful plugin that helps you tweet your old blog posts. The best thing about the plugin is you can actually schedule your posts for specific time. You can tweet your old blog posts every 4 hours a day or whatever time intervals you like to bring more traffic to your websites.

Repurpose your content to increase website traffic

What’s the use of publishing new posts without getting more online visibility? The simplest way to increase your articles visibility is to promote more. The more people you reach, the more traffic you can generate to your websites.

By repurposing your content, you can reach thousands of new visitors to your sites. The best thing is, you don’t have to brainstorm for this, just repurpose the posts that are valuable.

Repurposing your content also takes less time to research and gives you more traffic. Here are 3 of the best ways to repurpose your content.

Videos: Videos are really popular and most people would prefer watching videos over reading content. So if you have any detailed article that’s really valuable, convert it into a video to reach wider audience. You can either create a self-made video explaining your content or use tools to animate your stuff.

Infographics: Infographics are very easy to digest. Even if you’ve lots of content, you can merge it into one infographic to receive lots of attention. Moreover, infographics attract a lot of links and shares.

PDF files: One of the easiest ways to repurpose your existing content is to convert into PDF files and upload them into popular sites to freely download your stuff. And also use call to actions like sharing or subscribing to your blog within your PDF files to increase your conversion rates.

Improve your website’s overall SEO structure

The best way to increase your website traffic is to improve your SEO structure. The better your SEO structure, the more visitors you can drive from search engines to your websites.

Most beginners don’t focus on their SEO structure at all and because of this reason they lack organic traffic no matter how hard they work.

Conduct an SEO audit to make sure your website is doing well in search engine results. Make sure your URL structure is properly optimized, check your website loading speed and make your site mobile friendly.

Use better SEO plugins like WordPress SEO by Yoast to improve on-page optimization of your websites. Also make sure to get Google sitelinks to improve your website’s overall click through rates, conversion rates and increase your brand’s awareness.

Final thoughts on how to increase website traffic without publishing new content

To sum up, your website traffic totally depends on how you promote your content. Promotion is the key to get more traffic, leads and sales to any website.

In fact, without proper promotion, no matter how great content you have, it won’t attract more social shares, links and traffic. So make sure to use the above ways to reach out more people without posting new content.

    Hi Anil,

As soon as I read the headline, I said to myself, it’s not possible, or the traffic wouldn’t be that high.

If this is possible, then this post is only for me. No one else. Because, I stopped publishing on my own blog.

PDF files. Yes, I created a PDF of one of my posts and gave it for free with the same post. I think this is a good strategy. Videos/podcasts and infographics work well too, I would think.

I’m not properly promoting my old content, I agree. Need to promote more, even if I don’t publish anymore.

    Thanks for the reminder, Anil.

      Hi Raspal,

There are a lot more strategies you can use to increase traffic without actually pumping new stuff on your blogs. You can also try SlideShare to create slides from your popular posts to get more attention.

      Thanks for stopping by!

I am working on a plan now to start updating my old content. My plan is to work in more step-by-step tutorials. Also, providing a pdf download is a great idea.

    Thank you,

      Hi Renee,

Begin with TweetOldPosts plugin, it’s a great plugin that helps you automatically tweet old blog posts! I’m sure that will help you get more traffic to your blog posts.

Also, tag few influencers in your niche while sharing your posts.

    Hi Anil,

I really enjoyed this article. I loved the fact that you spent a good part of your article on SEO. I don’t understand why bloggers do not spend some time learning about SEO and use even such basics as adding links to other articles in the post they write. What a waste.

The call for action is also important. Almost always I remind my readers to leave a comment. It really helps.

I have not re-purposed my posts much but I am beginning to do that. I agree with you that there is a lot of value in this practice.

Thank you again for sharing, well done.

    • Anil Agarwal says

      Hi Dita,

SEO is the key to get more traffic, leads and sales. And not everyone has the money to spend on SEO to increase their traffic. So one should definitely spend time on learning SEO!

Repurposing your posts is what gives you more exposure. Thanks for stopping by!

    Hi Anil,
I am a new visitor to your website but I think I’ll remain here for a long time.
Your title itself is so eye catching that without reading the whole article none of your visitor could move ahead.

    Good post Anil!

Editing the old posts with better content and keywords would help us to drive organic traffic. If we share those edit posts in social media & blogging communities, we would get referral traffic. So, I’ve started to improve my old blog posts.

As you said, SEO audit should be done to maintain the good health of the blog. I’m not repurposing my blog posts as I unaware of capturing videos and creating infographics. But will try to learn these skills.

Thanks for presenting this helpful post for us, good to see you in Jane’s blog.

    • Anil Agarwal says

      Hi Nirmala,

You can also repurpose your posts by turning them into pdf or slideshares. Just make sure to reach out to more people with your exissting content.

  6. Adrienne says

    Hi Anil,

Welcome to Jane’s blog and thanks for sharing this information with us.

I haven’t resurrected any old posts although I have updated them. I guess I’m not really sure how to do all of that since I haven’t myself but I’ve been consistent with my posting. I can see if you are MIA for any length of time then these tactics would definitely work.

They are all very good ideas and I know I need to create some PDFs and put them on other sites. I’ve been meaning to do that for a while now but have yet to dive into that. Way too much on my plate I guess. I need to put that back on my list of things to do.

Thanks for these tips, all very good I might add. Will be sure to share this one as well.

Hope you both have a really good week.

    ~Adrienne

      Hi Adrienne,

      Thanks for welcoming!

PDF’s work really well as I’ve repurposed some of posts. Make sure to use links back to your sites so that people can visit your blogs from pdf’s.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    Hi Anil,

Great thought process and it made me to think from a new dimension as I was always looking for dishing out new content to keep my blog going. What I realized now is that I have at least 60 previous posts in need of restructure and application of proper SEO. I am going to do that right away.

One question, Sometimes when I change the heading, the url too begs for a change or otherwise both would have totally different meanings. Any suggestions to overcome this?

    Thank you.

    Hi Anil and Jane,

This is my first time here. I found your blog from Klinkk. I am also a member there. Nice to meet you. :)

I was caught by the title of your article. You really make an interesting title. That is why I am here now.

At first I did not believe that it is possible, although I doubt it because the power of the blog comes from continuous updates. And when I read this article, all of my beliefs crumbling. You really get the point there. :)

Indeed, we can fix the old posts and publish it again or share it back on social media sites. I will do this thing, honestly.

All of these tips are good ideas. I learn new things from this article. Thanks for sharing this with us, Anil.

Thanks for contributing in my learning curve as well.
Have a nice week ahead for both of you. :)

    Regards,
    Nanda

    Hi Anil

Wonderful tips you shared in this post and usually it happens to many who simply compromise on all their previous posts in archives as dead posts where rarely a few visitors have a look on them.

Repurposing a post equally requires creativity and one needs to apply every technique to put the new life in old posts.

Revive old posts’ free version is good but its premium version is pretty cool and almost do the entire job by itself by resharing the blog posts at three main social media.

Thanks a lot for sharing quite useful post.

    Anil,

Great and these can be considered as ever green points for website traffic even if you are not consistent with your blog post schedule.

I have started re purposing though I am not regular with it. Really need to strategise and implement.
