So you have a blog and you wish for every single visitor to your blog to become a dedicated reader?
It’s what every blog owner desires, and so you should equally desire the same!
Before we get started with this piece, I would like to set the record straight –
if you have not been treating your blog About page as the “King of all pages” on your blog, then you may not have been blogging the right way…
There is endless reader compelling power in your About page especially when properly written. You will find out soon as you progress with the reading.
Just to let you know, the blogosphere is already saturated with lots of bloggers blogging in different niches. These niches on the other hand are in constant competition with one another which leaves only the determined and those who are writing savvied to be on top of the game.
Based on my 3Es’ Blogging Rule – exposure, experience and expertise, I have been able to find out what works for successful bloggers and most importantly the uniqueness of the About page is in terms of helping you convert every single visitor who lands on your blog into a loyal reader.
I like to see this page as my sales pitch and that makes it the number 1 page on my blog and also my converting tool.
The About page is the first page where a visitor would check out to see if he or she is landed on the right blog.
If you grab this knowledge, you will be amazed at how your readership base would increase.
I have written a list of 3 simple practices which you can employ on your About page to help you professionally compel visitors into becoming real readers…
Oh! Before that, you won’t see “Add Email Subscription Form” in the list… it’s a must do already and so there is no need repeating it. However, I will be showing you how to use it wisely with these 3 practices I mentioned below:
Treat it as a Sales Pitch! Sell the Benefits of Your Blog
The number 1 thing to do when writing an About page is writing to sell the benefits of your blog. But the question is – how can you sell the benefits of your blog?
It’s simple, just go straight and tell your potential readers or clients what they want to hear and not what you want them to hear.
This is very serious, blogging has gone deep, we now live in a blogosphere where readers are equally writers and so telling them what they want to hear is a smart way of selling the benefits of your blog and also winning their hearts.
Call to Action
When you tell them these benefits, garnish the talks by asking them to subscribe to your blog email updates so as to start receiving those benefits right away. Placing an email opt-in form would be cool…
Set your most Popular Posts on Course
Most bloggers don’t know this – your most popular posts are your marketing and converting tools.
Have you considered asking yourself why people read these posts all the time? Have you taken some time to revisit these posts to find out those unique words that makes them popular all the time?
Don’t you think it will be a win-win thing when you professionally use the tone of your blog to incorporate these popular posts on your About page?
I want you to ponder on this for some moments and see what your heart tells you…
Call to Action
Pick at least 10 – 20 of your most popular posts and find a way of adding them to your About page making sure they rhyme with the tone of the page.
I am sure you have your email subscription forms embedded below your post pages? The idea I have here for telling you to add your most popular posts on your About page is to increase the chances of your visitors subscribing to your email updates should they miss to do so when they landed first on the About page.
Show Off Your Great Works
Most people easily fall in love with bloggers who connect with other bloggers in their niche.
I realized how professional this was, and that was why I added a list of my guest posts on other blogs on my About page. I knew how charming this can be to visitors especially when they see you have written for those authority blogs which they read and respect.
Call to Action
The tactics I used here was to write “Guest Posts I Have Written” as a sub-heading and under it I listed the posts and the names of the blogs (placing the authority blogs on top) and then adding an email subscription form just below the list. Believe me this is catchy…
Apart from writing guest posts as a sub-heading, you can be smart to write in a professional tone by writing something like this “My Writing Portfolio” as a sub-heading.
Here is the format I used to show off my works on other blogs:
Sub-heading: My Writing Portfolio (or you write “My Guest Posts on other Blog”)
- Title of the guest post @ Name of the blog where I guest posted
- Title of the guest post @ Name of the blog where I guest posted
- And it goes on like that
Place your email subscription form right below the posts and write some compelling words to get them submit their emails…
If you are an article writer like me, you can go further to show off your credibility for writing for big article directories. I write for EzineArticles and so if it were to be me, I will write that I am an expert writer @EzineArticles.
But how can all these make my visitors to become readers?
The question to adding these lists is – will they come back if they peradventure clicks and navigates away from your blog?
That is the beauty of it!
When they visit these authority blogs and see those great contents you have written with those awesome comments by readers who are like them, they will hit the back button to continue with you! There is no gambling on this, it’s a win-win…
Over to You
Alright I think I will stop here, maybe it’s time to hear from you!
Have you been using the About page to your advantage in terms of converting visitors into readers? What other practices do you use? Let’s here you in comments…
