Social media marketing and link building are one of the two most important aspects every blogger has to concentrate if they ever want to be known in the crowd. Given that the competition is damn crazy in the blogosphere with every niche, everyone tries to push so much forward.
Social media marketing is required to get your content across the web, as crazy as you can, so that more eyeballs can see it. And, this has to be done in a professional manner, without spamming and annoying people. Your promotion should also be from a trusted and popular source so that people will trust you and bother to click through your link.
When it comes to link building, search engines love backlinks from authority sites and rewards your site for such backlinks depending upon the number of such links. So your site builds authority depending upon the number of backlinks you get from authority links.
Authority sites prevail in the blogosphere. You simply have to find those blogs that are well established, popular, provide quality content and has a very good readership. There are also places dedicated to bloggers where they could hang out, promote others content, read new content from like minded people in their niche, get promoted and so on.

I have no doubt that it’s an excellent site for all the reasons you say. I am just finding it almost impossible to be contributing quality at so many sites.
