Google Plus Pages: How To Create A Page On Google+

create google plus page

Google has launched Google plus pages. It is a great opportunity for any business to have their own page on Google+.

Earlier Google+ was only supporting personal profiles and not any business profiles. Now just like Facebook, Google plus has also given a nice chance for its users to differentiate between a personal profile and a business page.

This way things are really going to be targeted and professional. Here’s a short video tutorial on how to create a Google plus page for your blog or business.

Steps to create a Google plus page

  1. Go to http://plus.google.com/pages/create.
  2. Pick a category.
  3. Give a name to your page (usually the name of your blog), fill in your website url, click agree to terms and press “Create”.
  4. Enter tag line, upload photo (a logo of your blog/website/business), click continue.
  5. Click Finish.
  6. Watch video for some customization options like adding your webpage links, photos and videos to your page.

Have been reading about it all over today and here on your blog as well!

Google+ business pages was surely something everyone had been waiting for a long time, and am glad they have come out with them now. However, I guess we should add just the personal profile page on our blogs ( similar to what you already have on this blog- as Jane Sheeba) or could you add the business page of problogging success here as well?

Thanks for the great video- makes the understanding much easier :)

    • Jane Sheeba says

Harleena as to adding to our blog I think the profile page is the one you need to go for. The main reason is with the author markups. Although we are able to add links in Google pages, we are not able to “claim” that the added link is our own blog from the pages. However this is possible in profiles.

Lets wait and see if Google offers this facility for pages as well!

This is great Jane! Now that I have managed my circles well, creating a page for my business will be a lot easier in Google +. This is great news for every business owner who want to extend business beyond Facebook. Thanks for this great share of info.

I have this G+ profile but haven’t created a page for my business. Thanks for the tutorial, I would try this one. Hope it works fine on me since I’d just jumped in G+ from FB.

Awesome Jane! Although I am a tad late, I would add that this is really good advise that you are giving your readers. I am of the opinion that in due time, Google pages will play some important role in something :) Most likely, Google will use it as a factor to determine popularity, influence, etc.. We’ll see. Great that you put this up.

      DiTesco,

Do you think your Google + page will pull more authority from Pages when it comes to ranking on Google? Meaning, if you have back links to your blog on your Google + page and you have a thriving community of people in your circles, Google will put more weight on this than, say, backlinks to non Google owned pages.

I know this sounds like a silly question but it would make sense if Google weighed their own properties more when they analyze PR and search rankings.

      What do you think?

Hi Allie. I would really would love to give you a “bulls eye” answer for this one, but sadly I can’t, because things are just moving so fast that it is difficult to forsee even in the short term what could happen. However, and because the signals are there, I do believe that at a certain point, high authority Google+ pages will eventually outrank other pages that have lesser authority on Google+. Take the “direct connect” feature that Google is now rolling out very slowly. Adding a + sign on any brand while searching will return the Google+ page of that particular brand in #1 spot. That should tell us something…

Obviously, if you have many links pointing towards your profile and a thriving community of people engaging actively, not only on G+ but on the social web as a whole, I am betting that you will definitely have more weight in comparison to those that don’t. This is why, I think that a G+ profile should be properly prepared and “authorship markup” verified accordingly. After all, you are pointing your profile towards your main website, right? So its a wheel. People link to your profile and in turn your profile is linking to your site. I am not saying that your link building efforts should only focus to your profile. A good balance of inbound links is what really matters. Hope that helps :)

          DiTesco,

Thank you for the very informative reply. I was not aware of the direct connect feature.

Ok, let me throw this out there. Say, I have 10000 followers on FB [ I don’t ;-( ] and an active community there. And on G+ I have that community pretty much mirrored. Do you believe because Google owns G+, my G+ profile or page will be viewed as better backlinks for my blog and thus helping to rank higher in searches? Did that make sense? Basically, I wonder if Google gives preference to links at G+ or even it’s other properties like YouTube? Should I be focusing on G+ more than FB? I said it. I am leaning to yes. What is your opinion? No pressure, lol. Should I kiss more Google butt in order to rank better? LOL.

        Hi Jane,

Yeah, I did actually, thanks to your post. I haven’t really been able to customize it yet.. its juts a simple as it can be kind of page for now.

By the way, is there any way to customize the page URL? You know how facebook lest you do that if you have a phone verified account and you can set it to facebook.com/yourname instead of facebook.com/1574fge643 or an ugly url like that.

        Thanks Jane.

Easy as pie. This could be the thing that gives Google+ an edge over Facebook. Though Facebook already has it, i really like how Google+ handled it.

  8. MartinMartin says

@Claire I doubt Google will exceed Facebook - when it comes to social media, Google has a lot of work to do. I created a Google Fan Page for one of my websites too, but emphasize to one from Facebook because it’s more useful at this moment. Maybe in a year or two Google Pages will help promote websites too, but right now it’s wasted time.
